Cross Canada and Back, Part 51

Drive to Kitchener, Ontario.

Friday 23rd of August, day 103.

Shortly after 9am we were rolling along on Hwy 401 toward Toronto. Our destination was the Milton KOA, about 70 km west of Toronto.

The 401 did not disappoint, from about Oshawa on the traffic became THICK. Three lines going each way full of trucks, cars, and the odd trailer or motor home. By the time we came into Toronto around Yonge Street on the 401 we were rolling along in the 3rd lane of 4 with an additional 3 connector lanes going west as well.

The GPS comes in handy.

Traffic is getting heavier.

In the opposite direction it was the same: Just a sea of motorists hurrying to places, passing and dodging in and out of their respecting lanes, I assume to cut off a half a minute off their one hour commuting time??!!

It was 10:30 by then, no snow storm or slippery roads, this must be regular traffic around this time. When we came closer to the airport, the connector lanes on our right were at a full stop.

We had decided that we would not drive all the way downtown Toronto. We had last visited this very interesting city a couple of years ago. It was great, but not with a car or a 5th wheel.

Anders did a great job driving through Toronto with all the traffic. By 11am we were in Milton / Campbellville KOA.

By the approach and the entrance to the RV park, we knew that it will not be a nice place. Everything looked neglected. Naturally it was also right on the 401, so the traffic noise was very annoying. But obviously there is no RV park or campground on Yonge and Bloor.

We set up camp and drove to Kitchener. I wanted to see and shop at their farmer's market. But it was closed, even though it was Friday?  Downtown Kitchener looked bleak and deserted. Even the shopping center was empty.

By contrast, on the outskirts of Kitchener, with all the big box stores, it was humming. Costco here we come.
