Cross Canada and Back, Part 50

Warkworth, Ontario

25th of August 2011. day 102, Tuesday

We slept in. The thunder and lightening storm last night was just too much.

At about 11am we packed a lunch, and took off in the search of Warkworth, ON, somewhere north of Brighton. Anders wanted to visit the Cheeky Bee Gallery. Their owners are making Bees Wax Candles.

Very nice country side driving up to Workworth on Hwy 25

This drive to Warkworth is very pretty over rolling hills and beautiful farm fields. The crops and the land is very well tended to.

Warkworth is such a surprise to us. It is about an hour and a half drive from Toronto in the middle of nowhere. But obviously it is discovered, small but oho! It is such a pretty little town with good stores and friendly genuine people. We talked to many of the stores' people, they were all very knowledgeable and professional.

Cheeky Bee Candle Company & Art Gallery
The Cheeky Bee Candle and Art Gallery is no exception and is great. They sell excellent art, and local and international crafts beautifully displayed.

Down the road " Mrs. McGarrigle's Fine Food" is an amazing kitchen gadget and fine food store. Sheila Wright, the owner is also a writer. " Amare" is one of her books. We bought a signed copy. It is a wonderful life story.

After Warkworth we headed north to Curve Lake Indian Reserve and to the Whetung Gallery. That gallery was chuck-full of native art. One could shop for a half a day in there. This Kawartha Lake area is very serene and beautiful.

On our way back, we stopped in Peterborough and watched the world's once largest hydraulic lift lock. Very impressive. But standing below, when the lift comes down with a tour boat full of people is quite scary.

This lock # 21 is part of the Trent Severn Waterway. In summer boaters enjoy the locks, in winter , here in Peterborough they skate below the lock.

It was such a glorious evening. We stopped in Cobourg on Lake Ontario, walked around and enjoyed the summer evening. Good Day!
